Man Making Lacquerware
#160268045
A man working on lacquerware. Lacquerware dates from the 12th century in the Bagan area. The mains structure comes from split bamboo which is worked into various shapes that are then bound with 'Thayo' a resin paste mixed with lacquer and ashes. The quality of the piece is determined by how many coatings of lacquer that are applied. They are then decorated by engraving.
